In September, NCTA hosted a webinar by Philippe Mercier, creator of the CAT tool Wordscope. Wordscope is an advanced computer-assisted translation platform available for both Mac and PC. It integrates with AI tools and can even customize the suggestions of DeepL and ChatGPT using private glossaries to assist translators. In short, this is a tool that can help translators make thoughtful decisions about word choice and sentence structure.
Philippe Mercier is based in Belgium. He began his career as an IT consultant and has authored a number of software programming books published by Hachette France. His passion for writing and his expertise in IT quickly led him to the world of translation and software localization, where he participated in numerous projects and held various positions within translation agencies. When developing Wordscope, Philippe incorporated the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, such as machine translation and ChatGPT, into this CAT tool. The goal was to assist translators in enhancing both the quality and speed of their services.
During the webinar, attendees viewed a typical project workflow in the online Wordscope platform. We saw translation suggestions from multiple MT engines for each segment, allowing for varied options and appropriate choices. The user is also able to create customized versions of ChatGPT and DeepL for each client. Private glossaries can be automatically integrated into ChatGPT and DeepL, ensuring translation suggestions stay accurate and consistent throughout a project.
We also touched on the confidentiality of our clients’ documents. Philippe explained that Wordscope only uses professional subscriptions to access MT tools and ChatGPT. As a result, translators get information security of tools like DeepL Pro and the confidential version of ChatGPT without having to purchase their own licenses.
