By Olivia Singier, President, CAPIT
Dear CAPIT community,
As spring leads us into this new edition of Translorial, I would like to take a moment to reflect on something that has always sat at the very heart of our association: volunteering.
CAPIT exists because of the time, energy, and dedication of its members. Behind every event, every newsflash, every initiative, there are volunteers who choose to contribute. This is not because they have any obligation to, but because they believe in the value of our profession and the strength of our community. In a field where many of us work independently, volunteering offers something essential: connection, a shared purpose, and the opportunity to build something larger than ourselves.
Being a volunteer is not always easy. It often happens alongside busy professional and personal lives, and the impact is not always immediately visible. Yet it is precisely this quiet, consistent commitment that allows CAPIT to grow, adapt, and continue to serve its members. It is also what fosters innovation, new ideas, and meaningful exchanges between colleagues across the state.
What makes CAPIT special is the diversity of the people who come together under its umbrella: every kind of language professional with different backgrounds, specialties, and experiences, all contributing in their own way. Volunteering is one of the ways we learn from one another, support one another, and strengthen our profession as a whole.
As we move forward, I encourage each of you to consider how you might get involved, in whatever way feels right for you. Whether it is helping with a social event somewhere in our wonderful state, sharing your expertise in a presentation or webinar, or simply engaging with fellow members during our general meetings. Every contribution matters.
Thank you to all of you, past and current board members, old and new members, who already give your time so generously, and to those who are considering joining us. CAPIT is, above all, a community shaped by its members.
Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.
Warm gratitude,
Olivia Singier
